Cookware oven-safe temperatures and lid limits

Check the pan, lid and every component that will go into the oven. Use the lowest applicable declared limit.

The lid can be the limiting component

A pan may have a substantially higher oven rating than its glass lid. Current HexClad product information states 900°F for the saucepan and 400°F for its lid. All-Clad NS Pro Ceramic states 450°F for the fry pan and 350°F for the glass lid.

A combined use at 425°F is therefore not confirmed for either of those lidded configurations. Removing a lid changes the components being used, but you still need to follow the vessel’s instructions. The care checker assumes an included lid is used when applying a temperature requirement.

Do not treat silence as permission

Some product pages state an oven limit for cookware without separately describing the lid. The finder excludes that product when you require covered oven cooking. Choose a pan and lid with stated limits that both cover your oven setting.

A metal-looking lid, knob or handle is not enough to infer a limit. Check the exact manual and configuration. Replacement lids and alternative knob materials can have different instructions from the original item.

Oven-safe and broiler-safe are separate

An oven temperature rating does not itself establish broiler compatibility. Broilers create different exposure conditions, and some manufacturers prohibit them even when the pan is oven safe. The comparison keeps broiler permission separate.

Use the manufacturer’s limits and appliance instructions. Our checker cannot inspect damage, a replacement component, or the accuracy of an oven thermostat. It is a specification comparison, not an experimental safety test. Record an unresolved detail on your kitchen sheet before making a purchase.
