Fluid ounces and weight ounces differ
A measuring jug marked “fl oz” measures volume. A scale set to “oz” measures weight. They are different units, even when the recipe uses the same word.
8 US fluid ounces = one US cup. But 8 ounces by weight is about 226.7962 grams, and the cups depend on the ingredient.
Check the measuring cup
This tool uses US customary cups, about 236.6 mL. A cup or tablespoon marked with a different mL size needs that volume instead. Choose milliliters in the tool when that is what your recipe gives.
For soup or a large batch, compare a stockpot and Dutch oven by the room your recipe needs. Converting cups to quarts does not tell you how close to the rim to fill a pot.
Cups, tablespoons and teaspoons
One US cup is 16 tablespoons or 48 teaspoons. Divide tablespoons by 16 to get cups. Scroll sideways to see every unit.
